Costume Order Guarantees
Facing Costumes & Props
Revised January 2007
If the production of a costume is delayed, or it appears that a costume will likely be sent ‘late’ (hand delivered or postmark date lies after the original agreed-upon completion date assigned at the time of receipt of down-payment), Facing will provide prior notification by e-mail of such an occurrence. As with the fluctuation of orders we receive, it is sometimes difficult to anticipate how much time any one project will take to complete. Often we find it necessary to move orders around within the schedule due to specific client needs and/or accommodation of larger orders. Of course we strive to meet all deadlines, as we appreciate and value the needs of our clients. It is important to let us know if you A. require the item for wear at a specific event or B. require the item for transfer to a third party on a specific date. If Facing fails to deliver a product within 60 days of original agreed-upon completion date, the client has the option of receiving a full refund. Facing takes no responsibility for costume lateness due to errors caused by the post office or delivery courier, a client’s failure to sign for delivery, or if delivery is postponed because balance, or total due, has not been paid. A down-payment on a costume purchased from Facing is non-refundable, except under the special circumstances described above. Any remaining balance owed on a commissioned item must be paid in full before the item will be delivered.
A final product may differ slightly from the sketch or photo to accommodate fit, assembly techniques, and material used.
A drawing, no matter how expert, cannot tell a complete story about a costume; how it will appear on a body, how it will make you feel when you wear it or how it will make others react to you. A guarantee that a costume will be constructed based on a sketch is a guarantee that a costume will resemble that sketch in form and color, constructed with the quality and durability you have seen in our showpieces. It is not a guarantee that a costume will meet all expectations one might create themselves. Many of these expectations are subjective and difficult to quantify. Those desires that are not expressed to the costumer may not always be translated to the finished product. We do not want you to pay for a costume you are unhappy with. When placing an order based on a drawing done by us, put your faith not only in the sketch but also in our body of work. Base your expectation not only on the rendering, but also on what we have done for others; those costume we have made in the past and how they themselves translated from a drawing to the living masterpiece. Hopefully you are purchasing a costume from us because you appreciate our attention to detail, style, and taste. These are the qualities you pay for here at Facing, never just a sketch on a piece of paper. You have seen what we can make, now let us create a great costume for you. You’ll love the results.
Warranty
All costumes made by Facing have a limited 6 month warranty for repair and fit (claims on alterations must be made by the client within 1 month of receiving the costume or accessory). Damage that WILL be covered under the 6 month warranty is as follows:
- loose seams (a knot has come unraveled or seam is too loose. Does not cover broken thread).
- elements that had been sewn or glued in place, such as beads or fabric panels, have come loose or fallen off.
- rivets have come out.
- broken hardware (buckles, snaps, rivets etc.).
Damage that WILL NOT be covered under the 6 month warranty is as follows:
- tears
- soiling
- paint wear
- broken threads (if a thread breaks, you have more than likely put too much stress on the piece and therefore cannot be covered)
Any damage NOT described in this contract will be reviewed but will not necessarily be repaired under warranty. Facing takes no responsibility for a costume not fitting due to weight fluctuations deviating from measurements originally taken at receipt of down-payment.
At any point a client attempts to alter a piece on their own, the warranty becomes void.
Quality Statement
- Comfort is dependant on how these costumes are worn. Although not harmful, latex should never directly come in contact with bare skin for an extended period of time.
- Costume pieces should be considered as accessories. Fabric garments, unless otherwise suggested, should be worn underneath all costume pieces.
- Because of the nature of the material, these costumes do not breathe well. It is recommended that they be worn for no longer than 8 hours at a time. If worn in hot weather, expect to sweat. If you feel faint or claustrophobic at any time while wearing your costume elements remove them immediately.
- If the neoprene, or plastic part of the costume, is tearing along a stitch line or elsewhere on the piece, you are either imposing wear and tear not appropriate for this type of costume or are wearing the costume too tight. Neoprene is strong. You should not be able to tear it, even along a stitch line.
- Costumes are NOT made to fight or maneuver in, unless otherwise specified.
- Due to the location and intricacies of the costume closures, it may be required that a second individual assist you in and out of costume.
- Some costumes, by their design, will limit movement.
Delivery & Care Contract
How to store costumes when not in use :
- headpieces must be stored upright on foam head.
- corsets must be stored flat, hanging, or on a form.
- armor must be stored hanging or on a form.
- gauntlets must be stored flat or ringed with stuffing.
Costume elements tend to ‘harden-up’ the longer they are stored. Don’t worry if they seem like they are too stiff to wear. Heat will make them pliable and form-fitting again. Place your costume on top of the dryer (never IN the dryer!) or in the sun for ten to twenty minutes. The longer you wear it, the more flexible your body heat makes the material.
Key storage points :
- Do not store costume in direct sunlight for longer than 2 hours or in below-freezing temperatures for an extended period of time.
- Although moisture will not damage these costumes, keep costumes away from prolonged exposure to moisture to preserve the life of the painted surface. If you are swimming or in contact with water via sprinklers, squirt guns, sweat etc., allow costume to dry completely before storing.
- Costumes will last forever if properly taken care of.
- Because the materials we use to make our products characteristically mold to the body when worn, creating form-fitting, comfortable costume pieces, proper storage of such pieces becomes essential to the preservation and long life of your costume, as the costume piece will likely adopt the form in which it is kept.
Fold Damage occurs when a rubber costume element is folded when not in use, creating a permanent crease in the material. Such damage is irreversible.
* Note - neoprene is the main component of most costumes made by Facing. If you have a known latex allergy be cautious of wearing your costume for extended periods of time. If you develop discomfort or rash while wearing your costume, take it off immediately and consult a physician.
